These words are often confused because of their spellings...


compliment(v)- praise, admiration or approval

(n)- an expression of praise, admiration or approval.

For e.g:- (v) "I complimented her on her English."

- (n) "Hmm... I will take that as a compliment."

complement (v)- to add new or contrasting features which show the best qualities of sth or which improve it.

(n)- a thing that contributes new or contrasting features or qualities which improve sth.

for eg.:- (n) "Rice makes an excellent complement to a curry dish."

- (v) "Use herbs that complement each other."
